Soccer in the school is as popular as ever with 22 members of the U18 squad and 16 members of the U14 squad. Training for the year will take place every Thursday after school from 3.30pm-4.30pm. Mr. Byrne and Ms. Fox continue to take charge of both teams.

U18's Soccer Match

The Sacred Heart U18 soccer team played in the final league match against Malahide. The match was held in Meadowview. The girls played very well but unfortunately came up against a better team and lost 4-0. The player of the match was Jane Hyland who has put in some outstanding performances this season.

Congratulations to Louise Burke (St. Martha's) who has been selected to represent Leinster in the FAI schools interprovincial series. Louise will travel as part of the U-15 team to the tournament which taken place in Athlone this coming weekend.

6th year student Jane Hyland's recent outstanding performances in nets was rewarded with an invitation to attend goalkeeping trials for the U-18 national squad. Jane breezed through the first round of trials and was one of only three called back fror a second trial. She is awaiting further news.

End of year Soccer Party

Another eventful year of soccer has just come to a close at Sacred Heart. Although we didn't hit the dizzy heights of 2007/08, it was still a very successful year. Participation levels were at an all-time high. Also, our hugely talented goalkeeper Jane Hyland was offered a trial by the FAI after some eye-catching performances. A second trial followed and Jane managed to reach the final three which was a great achievement and an inspiration to the younger girls coming through.

Thirdly the inaugural SHS indoor 5-a-side took place before easter with more than forty taking part. Medals and plaques were presented at our end of year bash. Finally a special word of thanks to Alex and Laura, my two captains who have been involved in soccer at SHS since my arrival. They were a big help to us over the years and set an example to all, on and off the pitch. Girls, I don't know how we'll replace you. Thanks to all the girls for their tremendous commitment throughout the year. Here's to next year! Mr Byrne & Ms Fox.
