Swimming

The swimming club is very popular with the students. The 30 members meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the pool in Aura Leisure Centre, Drogheda at 7.30am to 8.15am. They have swimming training and are back in time for school at 9am. Swimming practice also takes place after school on Thursday. The swimmers are trained by Olympic swimmer Colin Lowth, who competed in the Sydney Olympics 2000 for Ireland. Our swimmers are very dedicated and commited to their training.

Jill McEvoy, also in her first ever race, stormed to victory in the Girls 50m Breaststroke. Kate Monaghan easily took gold in the Girls under 16 Backstroke. All girls recorded personal best times and the gold medallists will represent Louth at the National CommunityGames in August. The Ian Daly "Swim a Mile" for Children with Cancer

The "swim a mile" event started off at 7pm in Aura Leisure Centre. Nearly 90 students were involved in the swim, and three teachers. Many parents, friends and teachers came to support the swimmers and cheer them on which added greatly to the wonderful atosphere on the evening. The more experienced swimmers swam the mile individually, and the other swimmers swam the mile in teams of three and four to complete the 64 lengths of the 25 metre pool. The challenge was difficult, but there was an exhilarating sense of achievement upon finishing, felt by all the swimmers who participated. The sense of support, fun, and participation made this event very enjoyable, and one that I hope will be repeated on a yearly basis. Congratulations to all the girls who swam, and who raised an impressive amount of money for Barretstown and Crumlin Hospital. A big thank you to swimming coach Colin Lowth and to P.E. teachers Ms. Mullins and Mrs. Corboy who did fantastic work coordinating this event, and thank you to all the girls who participated.
