Transition Year Bonding Trip

The new TY students of 2009/10 went to Tanagh Adventure Centre in Monaghan on a class bonding trip recently. They spent two days in the adventure centre, participating in a variety of outdoor activities, such as archery, rock climbing, an assault course, kyaking, hiking and team challenges. Thanks to Mrs. Corboy and Ms. Lynch who accompanied the girls.

TY Disability Day


The Transition Year students took part in a Disability Awareness Workshop on Tuesday 17th November. They attended a theory session in the morning, dealing with disability awareness in Irish society today, and in the afternoon, they participated in an activity session, which involved practicing different sports while using wheelchairs. This workshop was run by the Louth Partnership and the Irish Wheelchair Association.

Hot Chocolate for Sale!

The TY business studies students have their mini-company projects up and running in the school. One group have decided to sell hot chocolate one day a week in the school to students. They started selling on Tuesday 1st December and their idea was very popular, with students queueing up at the kitchen at lunch time to buy cups of tasty hot chocolate served with marshmallows and cookies.

Transition Year Driving Experience

The Transition Year students took part in a Driving Experience held by the Paul Dalton Traffic School in Drogheda Rugby Club. The girls got to practice their driver theory test and also got a chance to get behind the wheel and learn to drive. We should look out in the future for some splendid rally drivers!


Transition Year Salsa Dancing


The Transition Year students recently finished their 5 week salsa dancing workshop. The girls teamed up with some students from St. Mary's School and learned some great new dance moves under the guidance of dance instructor Rico. This workshop was a fantastic experience for the girls and they enjoyed it thoroughly.


Fundraising for Barrettstown

The Transition Years students presented their fundraising cheque to Barrettstown Centre. They raised 1,316 euro for Barrettstown as a result of their photography exhibition in Scotch Hall.



Transition Year Mini-Company


The Transition Year students set up and organised their own mini-company as part of their Business Studies programme. Their mini-company sold hair accessories and sunglasses. They were on sale in the school at lunch times.

Coca Cola Gr8t Debate: Sacred Heart V St. Joseph's


The Sacred Heart School hosted the Coca Cola Gr8t Debate against St. Joseph's School Drogheda. The motion was, "Organ donation should be made compulsary". The Sacred Heart team were opposing the motion.

On the Sacred Heart team were: Niamh Teeling (Captain), Aisling Treacy, Lauren Mohan, and Amy-Louise Hibbitts. Hosting the debate was Mr. Eddie Caffrey from LMFM. The debate was broadcasted on LMFM radio on Saturday May 9th. The Sacred Heart students were the outright winners and went forward to the final against the winners of the debate between Greenhill's School and St. Mary's School.


Photography Exhibition


The Sacred Heart School Transition Year students held a photography exhibition during December. As part of their Transition Year programme, the students have been participating in a photography course with local photographer, Terry Collins. The students thoroughly enjoyed their course with Terry and are grateful for his involvement in organising the exhibition.

The exhibition was held in Scotch Hall Shopping Centre and was officially opened by the Mayor, Frank Maher. The photographs were auctioned in aid of Barretstown, a facility which promotes recreation for children and families dealing with terminal illness.


The Transition Year Students raised 1,360 euro from this Photography Exhibition. Well done girls!!

TY Computer Awards


The TY students all received a certificate of achievement in Microsoft Office. The TY students participated in a Microsoft Office computer course during the year and completed an examination at the end of their training. All the students passed their exam and were awarded with a certificate.

Transition Year students complete their self-defense course in school with Patricia McQuillan.


The Transition Year Students enjoy a morning in the Boyne Valley Gym doing a step-aerobics class and a spinning class.
