Incoming First Year Assessment Morning
Christmas Talent Show
St. Elizabeth's class, along with their CSPE teacher Ms. Ryder, organised a school talent show as their action project. The talent show took place in the gym on Wednesday 21st December. Many students showcased their talents by singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, and performing gymnastics. Many teachers also got into the spirit of things and participated in the show much to the enjoyment of the students. Thanks to Mr. Whelan, Ms. Fox and Ms. Heatley for their fantastic performances! The judges (Mr. Byrne, Mrs. Stafford, Mr. Lawlor and Mrs. Cairns) had a tough decision to pick the winner. However they decided on Jade Quinn in third place who sang and played guitar, Jade Pepper in second place who sang and played piano, and traditional musical and Irish dancing group Cois Ceim in first place for their wonderful performance. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the girls who participated and made the show such an enjoyable event.

Open Evening in the Sacred Heart
The Sacred Heart open evening was held on Tuesday 22nd of November. We got the opportunity to meet and welcome nearly 400 of 5th and 6th class students from local schools and their parents. The students got an opportunity to meet the teachers and students of the Sacred Heart School. The senior students brought all the visitors on a tour of the school and they enjoyed an informative talk about our school by Ms. Caffrey, the Principal.

Rotary Youth Leadership Development Competition
Congratulations to Megan Reilly and Elsie Byrne who both entered this competition. Congratulations to Elsie Byrne who will now represent Drogheda in the Regional final on Tuesday 22nd November. Best of luck to Elsie pictured below.

St. Elizabeth's Bake Sale
St. Elizabeth's class, as part of their CSPE action project, organised a bake sale last week in school. The purpose of the bake sale was to raise money for Boyne River Rescue. The girls baked at home and in school during Home Economics class, and produced a wide selection of delicious treats.

Niall Mellon Township Trust
Congratulations to the TY students, who raised €1000 for the Niall Mellon Build a House project in Africa. The students organised a non-uniform day in the school. This amount of money will be just enough to build one home for a family. A plaque was designed and made for the house that will be built.

Leaving Certificate Awards 2011
Congratulations to Lauren Mohan (Head Girl 2010/11). Lauren won a Naughton Scholarship for her performance in the Leaving Certificate to attend Trinity College, Dublin.
Congratulations to Ciara Nugent who was awarded with the NUI Maynooth Entrance Scholarship.
Congratulations to Rachel Nally who won the JP McManus All Ireland Award.
Congratulations to Kate O'Donnell and Dearbhail Ni Oistin who both were awarded with the Entrance Exhibition Trinity College, Dublin.
Congratulations to Jessica McGowan who achieved excellent performance in the Leaving Certificate and was awarded with DCU's Inaugural Academic Scholarship.
Continuation of Basic Irish Course for Parents
An 8 week beginners Irish course will start in Navan Eucation Centre for parents, beginning Wednesday 28th of September, time: 10am-12.15pm. The facilitator is Seamus O'Neill. Telephone 046-9067040.
Newly elected School Leadership Council
Congratulations to the 6th year students who were recently awarded positions of responsibility in the Sacred Heart School for the new school year 2011/2012. Our newly elected Head Girl is Clodagh Cant. Our newly elected Sport's Captain is Niamh Pentony. Our new House Captains are: Ciara O'Donnell, Elsie Byrne, Patricia McMahon and Niamh Pentony. Our new Senior Prefects are: Katie Reid, Tessa McKeown, Amy Bogue, Fiona Grady, Helen Fee, Eimear O'Connor, Ciara Andrews, Claire Callaghan, Shannon Branigan, Alex Grimes, Megan Reilly, Dearbhla Moore, Jade Pepper, Eithne Nic An Riogh, Aoife Leonard, Paige Mooney, Pauline Murphy, and Katie Reilly. Our new Sport's Prefects are: Niamh Pentony (Basketball), Lauren Russell & Shannon Branigan (Gaelic), Claire Callaghan (Soccer), Clodagh Cant (Tennis), Kate Monaghan & Amy Bogue (Swimming), Tessa McKeown (Badminton), and Darlene McDonnell (Athletics). New Mentors for first year students were also assigned. Sacred Heart Awards Ceremony
The school awards ceremony was held on Wednesday 25th of May. Students had their achievements recognised with awards for diligence, academic achievement, full attendance, and sporting achievement. A full list of recipients and photos can be found on www.sacredheart.ie/events/academic-awards
1st Year Trip to Clogherhead
Just before the Easter holidays, a hundred first year students boarded buses to go to Clogherhead for the day as part of their first year PE trip. They participated in many activities including team challenges, canoeing,rock climbing and surfing. The brilliant weather added to their enjoyment of the day.


Girls in Golf
A golf training day took place in school recently. It was schools awareness month for Junior Golf Ireland and the aim of their programme was to introduce secondary students to the sport of golf. As part of this programme Rory Leonard, golf professional, visited our school and spent the day training the girls.



3rd Year Ski Trip
The 3rd year students headed off on the first ski trip ever from the school during the February mid-term break. The girls spent six nights in Berchestgaden, Germany. They participated in ski classes every day and in the evenings went ice-skating, shopping and paid a visit to the local thermal baths. They also got to go to the world bob sleigh championships which were being held in the neighbouring village of Konigsee.




Music Competition Success
Congratulations to 5th year student Eithne Nic An Ríogh, who recently won the JJ O'Reilly Piano Competition for concerto in the Feis Ceoil in Dublin.

Transition Year Environmental Trip
The TY students along with their teacher Ms. Heatley, recently went on an environmental trip to Killowen Outdoor Education Centre in Rostrevor, Co. Down. There, they observed the costal geography at Carlingford Lough. They also got the opportunity to canoe along the edge of the Lough.



Young Enterprise Awards
Congratulations to a group of TY students who won the Education Award within the Yong Enterprise Awards, organised by the Louth County Enterprise Board. The students formed an enterprise group called the "Versatile Verb & Bag Co." The group designed and produced their own educational verb cards for Irish and Modern Languages. Well done girls.
6th Year Health Education
During the month of October, 6th year Health Education class raised awareness for Breast Cancer in the school. They teamed up with the Irish Cancer Society and sold merchandise in the school for the month of October. During this time they conducted research on Breast Cancer and displayed their projects in the corridors. Along with selling the merchandise which included key-rings, pink ribbons, pens, lollipops and badges they organised a bake sale every Monday to promote awareness within the school.
In conjunction with this there was a non-uniform day organised where each student was required to wear at minimum of one piece of pink in their outfit. There was a great reaction within the school to this and everyone put in a great effort in wearing one pink item. Each student contributed €2 towards the fund. In total they raised €2500.00 which will be presented to the Irish Cancer Society.

Congratulations to the 6th Year Health Education class for all their great work in raising awareness within the school.
Congratualations to the gr8 Debaters!!
Sparks flew in the library of the Sacred Heart School as the school played host to the Coca-Cola gr8 debate. The Sacred Heart team comprising of captain Rita O'Donovan, Aine Monk, Lucy Mullin-Reynolds and Megan O'Connor battled it out against Gormanston College for a place in the semi-final. The Gormasnston college team comprised of captain Matthew Moynihan, Laura Grimes, Orla Cookman and Karen Keane.The subject for debate was "Emigration, the best option for school-leavers". Both teams put up a great fight but in the end Sacred Heart School emerged as champions .Congratulations to team for their hard work and excellent performance and well done to the whole Transition Year class for their tireless effort in preparation and research.The debate will be broadcast on LMFM on Saturday April 23rd at 5pm. Thanks to Ms. Kehoe for all her hard work with the TY English class.
